Roadrunner Speakers Send Five Groups to State

The Interstate 35 Speech Team had their strongest group showing in over four years. Six groups made the short trip last Saturday to Osceola for district group contest. Of the six participating groups, three improv groups, one ensemble group, and for the first time in Interstate speech history a short film also made the cut to head to Ankeny in two weeks for state competition.

The ensemble acting group consisting of Megan Ellis and Mariah Lewis performed Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead to the delight of fellow teammates and judges.

Improv groups consisted of Marie Bosworth, Dylan Webb, and Britanny Mease; Megan Ellis and Jayce Finnell; and Justin Pontier, Mariah Lewis, and Kaley Chicoine.

Interstate's first short film contestants included Ben Merrick, Andrew Morris, Kendall Hildebrand, Wyatt Oliver and Nick Peterson. The group put together an impressive special effects battle with light sabers entitled "Thunder Swords." The group not only shot their own film but also composed music, edited film, and embedded those special effeccts in the movie.

Also putting in a great effort on the day with their ensemble acting piece "Family 2.0" were Sarah Yawn and Alex Bertrand.

State competition will be in Ankeny in a little over one week.
